We’ve chosen to leverage our tech expertise to make the world a better place. Today that means building a community-fundraising platform, and supporting the creation of an international kids coding bootcamp.
Connecting
changemakers and
communities
In 2022, Nearform started working with ChangeX, a global platform that connects communities and social innovators with funding partners to start, scale and finance social projects aligned to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. With an aim of impacting one billion people globally by 2030, ChangeX needed an intuitive, user-friendly platform that was easy for social innovators and funders alike to navigate.
Nearform deployed a small team of developers to work pro bono on the ChangeX platform, to improve user functionality and grow the platform. Our work has so far contributed to a nearly two times increase in usage of the social innovators application page, and a 82% YoY increase in the amount of funds deployed across the fund management dashboard. The improved user experience of the ChangeX platform means it’s even easier for new ideas to receive the funding needed to help communities around the world.
Empowering children with digital skills
In collaboration with organisations worldwide, and through our relationship with E-ducare, Nearform helped launch the International Kids’ Coding Bootcamp, an ongoing, independent initiative that empowers vulnerable children with valuable digital skills. We’re proud to partner with this initiative that offers children and teens aged 11 to 15 the opportunity to learn programming basics, problem-solving, and the English language while promoting unity, equality, and acceptance of diversity.
The Bootcamp has been hugely successful, with over 50 children from six countries across four continents participating in these free online lessons and events provided by the initiative’s highly specialised volunteer developers. Initially from Nearform and Fab Lab Cagliari, these volunteers now represent a diverse range of nationalities and backgrounds.
The project has evolved into its own organisation and continues to grow, now serving and supporting a larger group of children from E-ducare, Fundación Gran Chaco, Il Sogno di Giulia Zedda, and other NGOs.
