Our commitment to the planet and local communities

As a remote-first business, with headquarters powered by renewable energy, we officially (and proudly) have zero Scope 1 and 2 emissions. But the work doesn’t stop there, as we seek to measure and reduce our Scope 3 output, where the bulk of our emissions lie. To ensure we remain accountable to these efforts, our near-term science-based maintenance targets have been approved by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), and we are now committed to measuring and reducing our Scope 3 emissions.

Partners with the CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, the We Mean Business Coalition, the World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), the SBTi is a corporate climate action organisation that enables companies and financial institutions worldwide to play their part in combating the climate crisis. They develop standards, tools and guidance which allow companies like Nearform to set greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reductions targets in line with what is needed to keep global heating below catastrophic levels and reach net-zero by 2050 at the latest.

We’re proud to have the SBTi’s validation of our near term maintenance targets and will continue to take action here, as outlined in our latest report.

Since 2021, we have been partners with Treedom, the first platform in the world that allows users to plant a tree from a distance and follow the story of that tree’s growth. The trees planted in both of our forests – our Nearforest and our Nearform Partner Forest – represent the commitment that we are taking towards creating a positive environmental impact for local communities. That commitment will see us planting and gifting a minimum of 10,000 trees through to the year 2025 across both of our forests. In doing so, we will be supporting around 1,176 farmers and their families, and absorbing approximately 2,797 tons of CO₂ from the atmosphere. Our promise not only to the planet but to future generations.
